In 2008, Google got its logo on the rocket launching the GeoEye-1 satellite for collecting space-based imagery. This year, it’s Microsoft’s turn.

The Bing logo was recently spotted gracing the side of a rocket ship at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. It was the result of a new partnership with an imagery company called DigitalGlobe. Last week, the company was launching a new WorldView-2 satellite on a DeltaII rocket, the results of which will be an increased amount of imagery for Virtual Earth and Bing Maps.
Another sponsor of the rocket is Nokia, whose Navteq subsidiary also supplies digital maps.
While Bing’s logo went into space, Google today announced a partnership with DigitalGlobe to launch a satellite into space to provide “high-quality imagery in Google Earth & Google Maps.”
What about Yahoo? Well, they did bury a Time Capsule in earth in October 2006 which wont be opened until March 2, 2020. Not exactly space, but still feels a bit futuristic.

Thanks for writing about this. There’s a mass of important tech info on the internet. You’ve got a lot of that info here on your web site. I’m impressed – I try to keep a couple blogs reasonably on-going, but it’s a struggle sometimes. You’ve done a solid job with this one. How do you do it?
