Do You MSN?, Now Do MSN Messenger-TV…

Posted by Samir Saleem On May - 7 - 2008

MSN Messenger being one of the most widely and gloabally used IM software is now launching a new, very well grommed activity within itself. Yeah You heard it right it’s TV.

MSN Live Messenger-TV

On May 8th Messenger TV will be released to the following 20 countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, and the UK. This means an almost global launch, only Japan and the USA are left out this time.

If you want to experience it right now, just go to your language setting’s in your browser adn select a langauge from the above mentioned countries and move it to the top of the list.

Messenger TV combines this language setting from IE with the navigation for MSN Video and creates the navigation in Messenger TV, so no two countries have the same menu! You will see Messenger TV as an activity within Windows Live Messenger.

Can’t wait? Head over to http://messengertv.msn.com/, add the Messenger TV Virtual buddy (or add MessengerTV@live.com directly) and start a conversation with it. A simple hi or hello will do, it just needs to get aware of your presence.

To watch with your buddy you will have to wait till the activity shows up in the activity list. You can’t invite one in once it’s running, and you can’t beforehand either as multi user conversations are not allowed for this agent.

The funny thing is that it is powered by Adobe Flash, but not Microsoft’s Own Silverlight.
Wonder why’s that. I personally beileve taht it is due to the large scel use of IM and the proven reliability and adaptibility of Flash. Lets see as it gets released for the US, then what happen’s. It will be anice platfrom from where microsoft can more make the genral masses know and install it’s silverlight plugin which can gain and increase it’s market share.

Here is a preview.
