Now that’s a pretty big claim by Google. From hiring Don Dodge to this, Google is doing everything to show Microsoft what’s it’s power is.
In a year, most users including enterprises will have the choice to “get rid of [Microsoft] Office if they chose to”, said Girouard, Google’s 3rd president along with founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
That said, he expects Google Docs, to overthrow Microsoft Office in terms of functionality with them being announced and integrated within the Google docs suite in the upcoming year.
Admitting that the current version of docs is not up to the mark
“We know it. We wouldn’t ask people to get rid of Microsoft Office and use Google Docs because it is not mature yet,”
“That having been said, I don’t think Office will entirely disappear,”
but he further mentioned that Microsoft Office is “an overkill tool for most people” and the time and age is of the Internet, people need change and ownership in terms of rights of use, modification, app integration etc.
“The way the world is heading, that’s less of an issue everyday… The ability for a vendor to determine what software users can use to access data is going away”
Do you think Google can do it, looking at it’s tremendous reach on the Internet and growth since the past 11 years?
