It’s a big day on the internet today as many companies including the likes of Google, Microsoft, WordPress and the worlds biggest encyclopedia Wikipedia have blacked out their logos and their sites completely opposing and protesting against the SOPA and PIPA bill.
Wikipedia

Earlier today we informed our readers that Wikipedia wont be available today on the 18th of January 2012 as it has completely blacked out its English based site.
Google:

Google, the worlds biggest search engine, has blacked out its logo and also come out with a petition campaign to tell the US congress to stop the SOPA and PIPA acts. The campaign states that Millions of Americans and those throughout the world oppose SOPA and PIPA because these bills would censor the Internet and slow economic growth.
Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House, would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. Millions of Internet users and entrepreneurs already oppose SOPA and PIPA.

You can go sign the petition https://www.google.com/landing/takeaction/.
Microsoft:

Microsoft has also joined in the party with these official statements resenting the SOPA bill.
The software giant issued a statement in response to inquiries of their position on SOPA:
“We oppose the passage of the SOPA bill as currently drafted. We think the White House statement points in a constructive way to problems with the current legislation, the need to fix them, and the opportunity for people on all sides to talk together about a better path forward.”
Microsoft’s newly unveiled stance does have some reflection on what the White house recently released:
“While we believe that online piracy by foreign websites is a serious problem that requires a serious legislative response, we will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet.”
WordPress:

Over half of the worlds blogs are based on wordpress and the CMS giant has blacked out its front page opposing the bills.
The site reads, “Many websites are blacked out today to protest proposed U.S. legislation that threatens internet freedom: the Stop Internet Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA). From personal blogs to Wikipedia, sites all over the web — including this one — are asking you to help stop this dangerous legislation from being passed. Please watch the video below to learn how this legislation will affect internet freedom, then scroll down to take action.”
