We all know Facebook runs enormous amount of data everyday on its servers. And just to know what people do, Facebook uses Lexicon. But Facebook was always looking for graphic driven way to look at the connections being made on the site and monitor activity.
Facebook’s own Jack Lindamood has now come with a solution named Palantir which will enable Facebook to see people’s interactions speeding across a computer model of the earth, as if friend requests, messages or photo-sharing exchanges were bursts of light or airplanes flying to their destinations.(Sounds like a 3D data visualizer to me though, but that’s Fantastic!!!)
The front end is written in Java and I saw a quite brilliant video demo of the first iteration of Palantir, which shows 3 1/2 minutes of Facebook activity this way.
